Visas
Visa Requirements
From December 21, 2007
Lithuania is part of the
Schengen Area. For more details on Schengen regulations
see
information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
US citizens do not need visas to enter Lithuania and other Shengen states as visitors
for stay up
to 3 months within a 6-month period counting from the first entry. Also, visitors from the
listed
countries require no visas.
Note. All visitors to Lithuania (including U.S. citizens) are
required
to have health insurance valid for Lithuania and the Schengen Area.
Visa applicants have
to submit the following documents:
1. Application
form, duly filled out in block letters and signed.
Application form
can be downloaded and
printed.
2. Passport or
travel document (original), valid at least 3 months after the intended departure from Lithuania.
3.
An official letter of invitation, issued or certified by
the Migration Authorities of the Republic of Lithuania. No letter of
invitation is required from citizens of following
countries for stay of up to 30 days:
* Visas shall be issued
for a stay of up to 30 day supon presenting proof of sufficient funds (40 euros per day) -
traveler's checks, credit cards or a bank account statement.
Note. Visas for Russian citizens are issued according to the EU-Russian
agreement on visas.
Also, no letter of invitation is required from:
-
A spouse or a child under 18 of a citizen of Lithuania;
-
An alien who is a family member of a national of an EU Member
State and accompanies him or her to Lithuania;
-
Persons traveling to participate in official meetings
organized by the President, Parliament, Government of Lithuania,
ministries and other state institutions;
-
Foreign nationals transporting charity goods, providing
coordinated aid to Lithuania, or traveling on the Red Cross missions;
-
Representatives of international organizations of which
Lithuania is a member;
-
Foreign nationals visiting a family grave (once a year), or
visiting a seriously ill family member or other close relative, or those
who are seriously ill and require urgent medical treatment, or are
accompanying seriously ill individuals, or traveling to attend funeral of
a family member or close relative. In all these cases official documents
proving these circumstances are required;
-
A person of Lithuanian
descent, upon presentation of appropriate certificate issued by the Lithuanian community or a diplomatic mission or a
consular post.

Foreign nationals in transit through Lithuania, if they
present documents proving necessity of transit;
4. Document proving the applicant’s legal status in the US
(visa, permanent resident card, resident alien card).
5. A documented proof of health insurance coverage valid in Lithuania and
other Schengen states
for the entire stay (in case singe-entry visas) and for the first period of
stay (in case of multiple-entry visas). The health insurance contract (policy) shall guarantee that all basic medical assistance costs and travel expenses which may arise in connection with the return, for health reasons, of an alien to homeland (medical transportation, including escort by medical brigade or a doctor) will be covered. The following shall be indicated in a health insurance contract (policy) issued by an insurance undertaking:

Number of health insurance contract (policy);
-
Particulars of the insurance undertaking (name, address of registered office, telephone or fax number);
-
Full name of the insured person;
-
The amount of health insurance;
-
Duration of health insurance contract (policy);
-
Territorial coverage of health insurance contract (policy);
-
Non-insured events.
The minimum amount of health insurance in respect of a single alien shall be LTL 20000
($8000) where he/she arrives in the Republic of Lithuania without a visa or in case of issuing, changing the status of or extending an airport transit (A), transit (B) or long-term (D) visa or a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania,
and EUR 30000 in case of issuing or extending a short-term visa (C).
Insurance card alone is not sufficient.

6. Consular fee in cash or Money Order - $93.
For citizens of
Russian Federation, Ukraine, Moldova, Albania, Bosnia and Herzogovina, Montenegro,
Macedonia, Serbia
- $54 (until December 1, 2008). See exemptions
listed below and special
provisions for Russian citizens.
7. Color photo (35
x 45 mm) corresponding to the present age of the applicant.
In most cases visas are issued within 10-12
business days
after submission of all necessary documents. However, for citizens of
certain countries, a consultation with the Ministry of Foreign affairs in
necessary, and visas are issued within 20
business days.
Notes:
-
An interview
may be required for citizens of certain countries.
-
Visas may only be
extended in Lithuania
by the
Migration authorities. Diplomatic missions and consular posts cannot
extend validity of visas.
-
If
a visa is requested by mail, a self-addressed prepaid envelope is required (regular mail,
Express Mail, courier mail, except FedEx). The Consulate
General accepts no responsibility for any documents lost in mailing.
There is no consular fee for:
-
issuance
of visas to foreigners holding diplomatic and service passports or
equivalent travel documents ,
provided that their travel to Lithuania is related with cultural, foreign
policy, development cooperation functions or other functions of public
importance;
-
issuance of visas to foreigners arriving to the Republic of Lithuania to
participate in official meetings organized
by the President of the Republic, the Seimas, the Government, ministries
and other state institutions as well as to provide charity and organised
aid to Lithuania, to foreigners on a Red Cross mission and to
representatives of international organisations in which the Republic of
Lithuania holds membership;
-
issuance of
visas to family members of European Union citizens or family members of
the citizens of member states of the
European Economic Area;
-
issuance of visas to children under 6 years of age;
-
issuance of visas to foreigners travelling once a year to visit the graves
of their family members in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania on
presentation of an officially certified document;
-
issuance of visas to foreigners travelling to visit a seriously ill family
member or a close relative on presentation of an officially certified
document;
-
issuance of visas to seriously ill foreigners or foreigners in need of
emergency medical aid on presentation of documents issued by the relevant
organisation and attesting to the urgent need for the persons concerned to
enter the territory of the Republic of Lithuania
(and foreigners accompanying them);
-
issuance
of visas to foreigners travelling to the funeral of a family member or a
close relative on presentation of a document to this effect;
-
issuance of visas to persons the rights of which have been restored under
the Law on Rehabilitation of Persons Repressed for Resistance to Occupying
Regimes (Valstybės Žinios No 14-386, 1990; Valstybės Žinios No 28-729,
1998) on presentation of a document to this effect;
-
issuance of visas to persons of Lithuanian origin on presentation of
certificates issued by the local communities of the World Lithuanian
Community or by the officers of diplomatic missions or consular posts of
the Republic of Lithuania in the format approved by the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, and also to person who have
presented a document attesting to the preservation of their right to the
citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania as well as to family members of
such persons;
-
issuance of long-term visas (D) to foreigners who have arrived for
pedagogical work in higher and college-level educational establishments,
vocational and general education schools of the Republic of Lithuania .
